Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has disclosed that he and his Leicester City teammates have long had mixed reactions to Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s habit of attempting audacious long-range shots during matches.
The Ghanaian winger grabbed the headlines over the weekend after producing a moment of brilliance, firing in a sensational 65-yard strike to help Leicester secure a commanding 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town at the King Power Stadium.
Issahaku’s extraordinary effort eclipsed an earlier opener from Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who continued his impressive scoring run with a precise 30-yard finish. Ayew himself added Leicester’s third shortly after the restart, before Jens Cajuste pulled one back for Ipswich in the second half.
Speaking after the match, Ayew admitted that Issahaku’s long-distance attempts have often drawn frustrated reactions from his teammates, even though the winger has persisted with confidence.
“He’s been trying it for years. We always scream at him,” Ayew revealed. “Today, he was rewarded. Fair play to him for keeping on trying. Sometimes we get upset with him.”
The victory sees Leicester climb to eighth place in the standings, moving to within three points of the Championship play-off positions, while further underlining Issahaku’s growing influence within the squad.
The 20-year-old Ghana international has now registered 10 goal contributions for the Foxes this season, scoring four goals and providing six assists, cementing his status as one of Leicester City’s standout performers in the campaign.
