English-born Ghanaian young defender Josh Acheampong has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs including Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old is rated as the best U-21 defenders in Europe following his exploits at Chelsea, significantly his promotion to the Blues' first-team under Enzo Maresca.
Manchester City is among several Premier League clubs that have been impressed by Acheampong's development. The interest from City reportedly follows Chelsea's enquiry for City's star player, Rico Lewis, who might instead be joining Nottingham Forest.
Other clubs, including AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, anWest Ham United, are also monitoring Acheampong.
However, Chelsea are playing hardball and will only sanction a loan for the highly-rated 19-year-old, who they see as the "next Levi Colwill."
Acheampong’s ability to play both at centre-back and full-back has made him one of the most sought-after defensive prospects in England, with Blues bosses keen to repeat the Colwill formula, loaning him out for experience before integrating him as a first-team regular.
His contract with Chelsea will be expiring in the summer of 2029.
Acheampong, who was born in England to Ghanaian parents, is eligible to represent Ghana at the international level despite playing for the England U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 teams.
