Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo has criticised the Black Stars for prioritising individual performance over collective effort, stating that a lack of cohesion cost Ghana their chance of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Sibo said: “I watched the qualifiers, and what I realised was that there was too much individuality, but unlike the World Cup qualifiers.”
"You can see the bond and love among the players now for the World Cup qualifiers, but during the AFCON qualifiers, we did not see that," he added.
Ghana concluded their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign bottom of Group F, failing to win a single match in five outings. The Black Stars collected just three points from three draws, including a crucial 1–1 draw with Angola in Luanda and draws against Niger and Sudan, coupled with losses to Angola and Sudan.
They scored only three goals and conceded five, finishing behind Angola (13 points), Sudan (7), and Niger (4). This marks a disappointing exit for the four-time AFCON champions, who have now missed out on AFCON for the first time since 2004.
Sibo joins a growing chorus calling for tactical discipline and unity as Ghana aim to regroup ahead of the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
