Leicester City manager Martí Cifuentes believes his side should have taken all three points against Portsmouth, lamenting missed chances from Ghana forward Jordan Ayew and Luke Thomas in their Championship clash over the weekend.

The Black Stars captain made a substitute appearance on his return from international duty, as the Foxes were held to a 1-1 draw by Portsmouth.

Leicester took the lead in the 26th minute through Aaron Ramsey, who finished off a clever pass from Ghana international Fatawu Issahaku. However, Portsmouth fought back strongly in the second half, equalising in the 58th minute through John Swift, ensuring both sides shared the spoils.

Reflecting on the result, Cifuentes expressed frustration over his team’s missed opportunities late in the game.

“In the last 15–20 minutes we were gaining a bit more control,” Cifuentes said. “We had Jordan [Ayew’s] chance and Luke [Thomas’] chance to win the game, but the second half was not at the level that we wanted. I’m very self-critical — we should have done much better.”

Cifuentes will be counting on Ayew’s experience when Leicester visit Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday, as they seek to return to winning ways.

The 34-year-old Ghanaian forward has made nine Championship appearances for Leicester this season, scoring one goal since joining the club.
