Ghanaian prodigy Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is reportedly on the verge of joining English club Leicester City, aiming to secure more playing time in the upcoming season, according to Portuguese website Record.
The 19-year-old winger has fallen out of favor at Sporting Lisbon due to his absence from Ruben Amorim's plans for the current season.
Renowned for his exceptional talent, Issahaku is poised to embark on a new chapter with the Foxes through an initial loan agreement. This arrangement includes an option for a permanent transfer at €14 million at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
In April 2022, Issahaku made his European debut after transitioning from Ghana's Steadfast FC, a lower-tier side, for a fee of approximately €1.2 million. He secured a five-year contract as a strategic measure to deter potential suitors.
Despite this, Issahaku's appearances have been limited to just 12 matches across various competitions for Sporting's senior team. Consequently, he has been granted permission to explore opportunities beyond Portugal.
He has also showcased his skills in 14 appearances for Sporting's B team, netting five goals, including a memorable hat-trick in the UEFA Youth League.
Notably, Sporting declined an offer of about €8 million from Premier League side Crystal Palace for the emerging Ghanaian talent, as reported by Adeptos last week.
Having been part of Ghana's squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar the previous year, Issahaku made a brief appearance in the final group-stage match against Uruguay.
These developments hint at an exciting trajectory for Issahaku, as he looks forward to potentially thriving in a new footballing environment with Leicester City.
