Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has called on his Leicester City teammates to be more assertive in front of goal following their 1-0 pre-season win over Hungarian side Zalaegerzegi on Saturday at the ZTE Arena in Hungary.
Ayew, who joined Leicester City ahead of the 2024–25 season, scored the only goal of the match, weaving past several defenders before firing home to secure the victory.
“Sometimes as a striker you need to force your way through, and that’s what I tried to do,” the 32-year-old told Leicester City media after the match.
“I feel like we don’t sometimes take enough initiative. We play it around the box, but we need to shoot more. Luckily for me today it went in.”
Ayew, who serves as the captain for Ghana’s senior national team, emphasized the importance of building momentum as the new Premier League season approaches.
“We’ll keep on working and pushing ourselves hard. The season is only around the corner now, so we need to make sure we are ready for it,” he added.
The game also marked the return of fellow Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who featured for the first time since suffering an ACL injury in November 2024.
Leicester, back in the Championship after being relegated from the English Premier League last season, continue their pre-season campaign with a series of friendlies across Europe.
