Head coach of AmaZulu FC, Arthur Zwane has jumped to the defense of Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori following double clangers in their pulsating 2-2 draw last night against Kaizer Chiefs in the South Africa Betway Premiership.
The 31-year-old goalie made the starting XI as always but didn't really have a good game even though he stayed on and enjoyed full throttle.
Kaizer Chiefs opened the scoring account through an own but two goals in each half from Tshepang Moremi and Elmo Kambindu propelled the comeback and handed the visitors the lead for the first time in the game.
Just three minutes after going up, Richard Ofori again committed another huge blunder having failed to grab in the air what was a very easy ball to collect and it ended up at the back of the net to bring the homesters back on level terms.
Clearly the AmaZulu FC supporters weren't happy with Ofori's performance after the game and called him out hugely following the comments they made on the club's official socials.
However, head coach Arthur Zwane sees it as just a bad day in office as he knows the capabilities of the stalwart goalkeeper and added they will help him recover his confidence from henceforth to deliver his 'A' game in their subsequent games.
“Unfortunately, football is a game of mistakes. [But] as I said earlier on, he kept us in the game [first half]. Sometimes when the pressure mounts, you are bound to crack. He made those two crucial mistakes; both of them we know he’d save, make them look easy. Now it is our job as coaches to try and help him psychologically because we need him. He’s been doing fantastically well for the team,” he said on SuperSport TV.
AmaZulu FC are currently in the 7th place with 20 points after 16 games, just four away from the top four and will host Marumo Gallants FC next.
Richard Ofori hasn't been with the Black Stars for almost a year now and his last moments with the team was at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote D'Ivoire early last year.
