Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has praised Ghanaian midfielder Amankwah Forson for his perseverance and decisive contribution in Saturday’s 2-1 Championship triumph over Coventry City.
Forson, who joined Norwich earlier this season, has faced challenges in securing regular playing time, having been excluded from the squad for the past seven league games.
“It hasn’t been easy for him,” Thorup admitted post-match. “He’s adapting to a new country and club, which is always tough, especially when you’re not playing regularly. But he’s shown resilience, and with support from his teammates, he delivered something truly special tonight.”
Substituted into the match in the 84th minute, Forson immediately made his presence felt. Coventry had taken a 24th-minute lead through Milan van Ewijk, and despite Norwich dominating possession, they struggled to break through. Forson’s first strike was a superb curling shot from the edge of the box, followed shortly by a deflected effort, set up by Onel Hernandez, that completed the comeback.
Thorup encouraged the 22-year-old to embrace the moment. “I usually advise players to stay grounded and not get carried away by media praise, but in this case, I’ve told him to enjoy every bit of it. He’s earned it,” Thorup said.
The victory, Norwich’s third in four games, moves them within four points of the playoff positions.
Forson, who has accumulated 635 minutes across 17 appearances this season, now boasts two goals and two assists, signaling his growing influence in Norwich’s promotion push.
