The ex-VfL Bochum youth star has completed his transfer switch to the German elite division campaigners in this summer transfer window

Bundesliga side Union Berlin have announced the signing of German-born Ghanaian forward llyas Ansah from  2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn 07.

The 20-year-old, who has had a breakthrough season in the just ended campaign, inked his deal with his new employers after passing his mandatory medical examinations this week.

An official confirmation over the capturing of the towering striker read: '' FC Union Berlin have secured the services of Ilyas Ansah. The 20-year-old attacker is moving to Köpenick from SC Paderborn and will immediately strengthen head coach Steffen Baumgart's team.''

Right after putting pen to paper, the talented youngster had this to say via his club's official website: ''Union are a special club that stand for passion, solidarity and honest football – exactly what I associate with this sport. “When I was approached, I didn't have to think twice. For me, the move to Berlin is a huge opportunity to develop further at a high level, gain new experiences and contribute to the team's success. I'm looking forward to getting to know the environment, taking part in pre-season training and then hopefully playing at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei as soon as possible.''

Sporting director Horst Heldt added: ''In Ilyas, we are getting a young but already very developed attacking player who performed consistently well last season. He brings pace, physicality and goal-scoring ability – qualities we need in our game. We are convinced that he can take the next step with us and are delighted to welcome him to Union.''

Ansah has had a splendid season this term having netted 6 and assisted 6 in 35 appearances for SCP07 across all competitions in the just concluded 2024-25 campaign.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Lüdenscheid-born towering forward still remains eligible to switch nationality allegiance and play for Ghana at the international level despite playing for the German U20 national youth team.
