The Swedish second-tier outfit have snapped up the signature of the forward of Ghanaian origin ahead of the start of the new football season

Superettan club Helsingborgs IF have announced the signing of German-born Ghanaian forward Kevin Appiah Nyarko on a one-year contract.

The 24-year-old is joining up with the Swedish lowly division outfit on a free transfer after severing ties with Finnish Veikkausliiga club SJK Seinäjoki as he is now set to stage a return to the Swedish football contests following spell with Varbergs BoIS.

An excerpt of a statement confirming the capturing of the Ghana-prospect attacker reads: ''Helsingborgs IF and Kevin Nyarko have agreed on a one-year contract. The 24-year-old forward joins on a free transfer after being a member of SJK Seinäjoki.

''Kevin Nyarko is of Ghanaian origin but was born in Germany and raised in the UK, where he was part of Wolverhampton Wanderers' youth academy. The forward also played for two lower-tier London clubs before moving to Sweden and Division 2 club Gottne IF at the age of 19.''

Nyarko has told his club's official website: '' I am very happy to come back to Sweden and to come to a big club so I am looking forward to getting started. I have heard many good things about the club from several different people who have been here. Everyone has mentioned that it is a big club with many supporters and a city that really loves football. I was attracted by that passion. It is also fun to work with Stevie again, he taught me a lot during the time we worked together.''

Head coach Stevie Grieve added: ''I know Kevin very well from our time together in Finland and know what he can contribute both on and off the pitch. He will complement our attacking line-up with his physicality and different playing style to the strikers we have in the squad. I am happy to work with him again and look forward to seeing him contribute on the pitch.''

Born and raised in Germany to Ghanian parents, the 24-year-old remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level.
