Italian Serie A returnees Parma Calcio FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian-Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki in the ongoing summer transfer window.

“Zion, a Japanese international with American (born in Little Rock, Arkansas) and Ghanaian heritage, has represented two clubs in his career: Urawa Red Diamonds and Sint-Truidense.”

Zion Suzuki rose through the ranks of Japanese club Urawa Red Diamond and signed a professional contract in 2020. He attracted interest from several clubs in Europe, including English Premier League giants Manchester United, but Belgian Pro League club Sint-Truiden won the battle to acquire him for €4 million.

Arriving at Sint-Truiden in February this year, Suzuki kept five clean sheets in 22 Belgian Pro League games.

Speaking to the club's official website after signing the contract, Zion Suzuki expressed his delight with the switch and hoped to make a great impact in the upcoming season.

“I am Zion Suzuki, and I’m happy to be part of Parma Calcio 1913. I know this is a club with a great history and many fans worldwide, and we will be playing in Serie A. For this reason, I will always strive to give my best and contribute to the team's success,” Suzuki said in an interview.

Suzuki, who was born in the United States to a Ghanaian father and a Japanese mother, is the number one shot-stopper for Japan and has already made 10 appearances for the Samurai Blue.
