Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially launched negotiations to sign Ghanaian international Jonas Adjetey from Swiss side FC Basel, as the Premier League outfit battles to avoid relegation, reports Africafoot.

The 22-year-old center-back, who has earned seven caps for the Black Stars, is seen as a potential game-changer for Wolves, who are currently bottom of the table after 23 matches. The club has submitted an opening proposal of €13 million (£10.8m) plus €2m in performance-related add-ons.

With the winter transfer window nearing its close, Wolves manager Rob Edwards has made bolstering his leaky defense a top priority. Adjetey is viewed as a critical piece in the late-season fight to preserve Premier League status.

Adjetey’s profile has grown significantly since joining Basel in August 2022. Despite a Transfermarkt valuation of €7m, strong interest from multiple European clubs has driven up his market value.

While Wolves are leading the chase, RC Lens from France and Galatasaray from Turkey have also expressed interest in the past. Adjetey previously opted to stay in Switzerland to continue his development rather than move abroad last summer.

The Ghanaian defender is renowned for his speed in recovery, physical presence, and aerial dominance—areas Wolves have struggled with this season. At just 22, he offers both an immediate solution to a struggling backline and a long-term asset with potential resale value.
