Highly rated Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has reportedly personally rejected a last-minute transfer to the English Premier League during the January window, choosing instead to remain with FC Nordsjaelland, according to Viaplay.
The 20-year-old drew serious attention from England after an unnamed Premier League side lodged a €18 million bid in the closing days of the transfer window. While Nordsjaelland initially indicated that the offer had been turned down by the club, fresh reports now suggest that the final decision rested with the player himself.
Viaplay reveals that Yirenkyi opted to stay in Denmark in order to prioritise consistent playing time and continued development, believing this to be crucial to his long-term ambitions—particularly his desire to secure a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be staged across the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Although the identity of the interested Premier League club remains undisclosed, the size of the offer underlines Yirenkyi’s rapidly rising stock in European football.
Since breaking into Nordsjaelland’s first team, the midfielder has made 39 senior appearances, contributing three goals and six assists, and remains tied to the Danish club on a long-term contract running until 2030.
Nordsjaelland sporting director Alexander Riget acknowledged the significance of the proposal but reaffirmed the club’s belief in the player’s true market value.
“Eighteen million euros is obviously a big amount, but if you believe a player is worth more, then saying no is straightforward,” Riget told Viaplay.
Yirenkyi has already earned eight caps for the Black Stars and is aiming to be part of Ghana’s World Cup campaign, where they have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
