In a low-key but significant transfer, Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Mitch Apau has officially signed for SV Spakenburg, bringing a wealth of experience to the Dutch Tweede Divisie side.

The 35-year-old right-back, known for his composure, versatility, and leadership at the back, joins Spakenburg after leaving SC Telstar, where he made a name for himself as a reliable presence in defence.

“Experience, leadership, calmness and solidity were the key words here,” Marc Schoonebeek, chairman of SV Spakenburg, stated in an official statement.

Born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents, Apau has played across Europe with spells in Belgium, Slovenia, and Slovakia, featuring for clubs like Westerlo, Olimpija Ljubljana, and Slovan Bratislava. Though never capped at senior level for Ghana, he has expressed interest in representing the Black Stars in the past.

Apau’s arrival is seen as a coup for Spakenburg, who are looking to strengthen their backline ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. With his signing, the club signals intent to challenge higher up the table.
