The former RC Lens loanee said his loan move to the Stade du Pays de Charleroi came about as a result of the frosty relationship with the man in charge of the dugout at the Liège-based club
Ghanaian centre-forward Grejohn Kyei says the bad blood that existed between him and Standard Liège manager Ivan Leko made him proceed on loan to Royal Charleroi on transfer deadline day in Belgium.
The 29-year-old frontman, who joined the Liège-based club on a three-year deal during this just ended summer transfer window, saw his spell short-lived at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadium given the animosity that existed between himself and the Croatian gaffer.
In a social media statement, the former Stade Reims striker admitted the circumstances that engulfed his career at Standard Liège did not help matters and had to leave for the betterment of the club over its cause.
"Unfortunately, there are insurmountable disagreements between the coach and me," the forward admitted. He continued: "In this situation, I am unable to help this great club, this beautiful institution, and to repay on the pitch the trust placed in me by the supporters who support their team with a fervour that I have rarely seen."
Prior to his transfer loan switch, Kyei figured in 6 league games for Standard Liège in the ongoing Jupiler Pro League 24/25 campaign.
Given his Ghanaian heritage, the French-born striker remains qualified to play for Ghana at the international level despite playing for the French U21 national youth team.
