VfB Stuttgart are reportedly preparing to extend the contract of Danish-Ghanaian midfielder Nikolas Nartey beyond this summer, according to German outlet Bild.
Club officials are understood to be impressed by Nartey’s recent performances and are keen to secure his long-term future at the Bundesliga side.
However, despite these plans, Nartey could still be omitted from Stuttgart’s Europa League squad. The 25-year-old started two of the team’s first three matches of the new year, but a new squad registration for European competition would likely require a swap with Ermedin Demirović, the player Nartey initially replaced on the list. This presents a delicate situation where his growing importance in domestic matches must be balanced against tactical considerations in Europe.
Details regarding the length of the proposed contract extension remain undisclosed, as talks are reportedly still in the early stages. The situation, however, underscores Stuttgart’s long-term trust and valuation of Nartey, even if his exact role in European competitions is not fully guaranteed.
Nartey joined VfB Stuttgart in August 2019 from FC Köln for a fee of €300,000. During the 2024–25 season, he made one appearance in the DFB-Pokal, contributing to the squad that eventually lifted the trophy, further cementing his value to the club.
With domestic form on the rise, Stuttgart appear intent on ensuring Nartey remains a key part of their Bundesliga plans in the years to come.
