Samuel Uwikunda, a seasoned referee from Rwanda, has been appointed to oversee the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opening qualifying match between Ghana and Angola.
The highly anticipated match will take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi next month.
The 37-year-old Uwikunda brings extensive experience to the role, having previously officiated critical matches in the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, the Championship of African Nations (CHAN), and the Africa Cup of Nations.
Joining Uwikunda are his compatriots Dieudonne Mutuyimana as Assistant Referee I, Eric Mugabo as Assistant Referee II, and Ruzindana Nsoro as the Fourth Official. Sanusi Mohammed from Nigeria will serve as the Match Commissioner, ensuring the smooth operation of the game, while Elsayed Morad Attaalla from Egypt will be the Referee Assessor.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 16:00Hrs on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Football fans are eagerly anticipating this clash between Ghana and Angola, with both teams vying for a strong start in their quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
