Ghana Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo says Felix Afena-Gyan will have to show what he's capable of again at the Unity Cup in London to keep his place in the squad, as he tries to establish an identity for the senior national team.
Addo took flak for naming Afena-Gyan in the squad list, with the Juventus Next Generation forward last featuring for Ghana in 2022 against Nicaragua.
Afena-Gyan, who has got 1 goal and 1 assist under his sleeves in the seven games he has played for the Black Stars is slated to join the Black Stars camp today in London.
“There are a lot of young players, and he’s also young, he did well, and that’s why we want to give him another chance; he’s still young," Addo told pressmen ahead of the matches.
"His career hasn’t been like he expected it to be, but this is normal in football. Sometimes you have ups and sometimes you have downs, and for him, it’s another opportunity for him to show himself."
Afena-Gyan has notched six goals in 30 appearances for his Serie C side.
Ghana will open their Unity Cup campaign on Wednesday against West African rivals Nigeria before playing their second game on May 31 against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
