Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Fatau Dauda has acknowledged the difficulty of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but remains optimistic that the team can secure maximum points.
The national team will regroup in September for Matchday 7 and 8 of the qualifiers. Ghana will first travel to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4, before returning home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Ghana come into the fixtures on the back of two straight wins in March, and Dauda believes the team can build on that momentum.
“In March, we played two games and we won, and Ghanaians showed up in their numbers to support us. But that is in the past now. We have important games ahead, and if we want to win, we need to score goals and work hard,” Dauda told GHOne TV.
He stressed that while the task will not be easy, the Black Stars are determined to keep their qualification hopes alive.
“We will do our very best to win these matches, but it won’t be easy. Our opponents will be analysing us, just as we will be analysing them. At this level, it is tough, but if we want to go to the World Cup, we must win these two games. I know we can do it,” he added.
Head coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad later this week. Ghana currently sit top of Group I with 15 points after six matches played.
