Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed his relief after ending his two-year goal drought for the Black Stars in their emphatic 5-0 win over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Bournemouth striker last found the net for Ghana in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola. However, he broke his barren spell in style by opening the scoring just two minutes into Friday’s clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Semenyo admitted he was determined to get back on the scoresheet during this international window.

“I feel like every player has a period when they don’t score. Every game is an opportunity to try and get a goal; if I don’t, I focus on the next game,” he said.

“I felt like, during this international break, I needed to get a goal. I’m not going to say there is any pressure.”

His early strike set the tone for a dominant Black Stars performance, as Otto Addo’s men secured a crucial victory to move to the top of Group I.

Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also got on the scoresheet, sealing a statement win.

With confidence high, the Black Stars now shift their focus to their next game against Madagascar on Monday, March 24, in Morocco, as they aim to solidify their lead in the group.
