Captain of Ghana’s senior men national team, Jordan Ayew was once again in the thick of things in the win over Central African Republic with a goal and assist and has asserted that they will still remain focused until they get the deal done.
The Black Stars trounced Central African Republic by an emphatic 5-0 in a an exciting game at the Stade d’honneur in match-day 9 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring account with a powerful header, coupled with four other second half goals from Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew and substitute Kamaldeen Sulemana sealed the victory in Meknes.
In a post-match interview with 3Sports, the Leicester City star said they were pushing to make amends by qualifying to the World Cuo after painfully failing to qualify for the AFCON.
“I took this to heart because I wasn’t happy with how things went at the 2022 World Cup. Missing the AFCON was a huge disaster and disappointment for all of us.
"We knew this World Cup was our only chance to redeem ourselves, so everyone gave everything. I’ve been with the national team for a long time, it’s a part of me, and I knew I had to step up," he added
He furthered stated that they ain’t relenting and won’t get swollen-headed as well ahead of the Comoros game as they look to finish on a higher note.
“Nothing changes for us. It’s still an important game, there’s something at stake, and that’s to win and finish the job,” Ayew told 3Sports.
“We don’t want to get carried away because we know there’s one more game. We want to finish hard, finish strong, and make sure we enjoy ourselves on the pitch while making the fans proud. I hope they come to celebrate with us.”
Ghana despite having seven wins from nine matches and leading Group I with 19 points, will still have to wait until the final day to seal qualification as they will only require a draw to achieve their fifth appearance to the Mundial.
Ghana have already returned home to prepare for the final group game against Comoros on Monday, October 13, at the Ohene Gyan Stadium.
