The FIFA World Cup is less than two weeks away as the footballing world gears up for the biggest party of the year in Qatar. It’s not too early to start salivating over the thrilling encounters guaranteed to take place from November 21 onwards.
Some of the world’s best players will take part in this illustrious competition, and it’ll be a dream come true for many youngsters.
Several young footballers will experience their World Cup debut and some national teams would be foolish not to feature these irresistible, multi-talented youngsters.
Here, we outline six Ghanaian youngsters vying for a spot in Otto Addo’s World Cup squad.
Kamaldeen Sulemana
The Stade Rennais star is enjoying a fine campaign and interest in the youngster is high as the transfer window edges closer to opening.
With the World Cup looming, there are hushed talks that Sulemana could be handed the chance to impress at the world stage. Sulemana will want to reserve his best for the World Cup. Versatility in attack mixed with his unpredictable skillset makes him an asset for the Black Stars.
His movement, dribbling ability, creativity and finishing skills mean he can be Ghana “ace in the hole” in the attacking areas. Sulemana’s irresistible style makes him a major threat for the Black Stars and he can carry them well forward in the tournament if able to find his groove.
Mohammed Kudus
Ghana have a number of quality youngsters ready to light up the World Cup. One player that seems to have Otto’s confidence is Mohammed Kudus. The Ajax Amsterdam midfielder has been a revelation for the Dutch side this term.
The 22-year-old has scored 10 goals and registered 2 assists in 18 games across all competitions and is one of the most exciting youngsters to watch. Kudus’s quick movement, brilliant dribbling ability, tendency to cut in from the wings makes him a dangerous and exciting player.
Tariq Lamptey
The Black Stars have been placed in a relatively challenging group in the World Cup, with Portugal and Uruguay in their way. They’ll need to produce some special performances to get past the group stage and need their players to shine. One player to keep an eye on is youngster Tariq Lamptey.
He may have only capped 11 Premier League games for Brighton and Hove Albion this term, but he’s churned out a number of performances beyond his years in the Brighton setup. Tariq Lamptey has blossomed in part due to the insistence of the full-backs to help stretch opponents. Dennis Odoi is Ghana’s number one right-back at present but Lamptey has the quality to best Odoi and make the position his.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku
A willingness to start from the right before letting fly with his wicked left foot, Issahaku could be prove to be Addo’s secret weapon in Qatar.
The winger is ceratinly staking his claim for a spot in Addo’s World Cup squad. If he can continue his fine form for his Portuguese club, Addo may find it too difficult to ignore the cries for the former Dreams FC player to earn a global recognition at the grandest stage, even accounting for his inexperience at that level.
Felix Ohene Afena-Gyan
The 19-year-old can play virtually any role in attack. His creativity, passing ability and pressing style make him very difficult to play against.
Moreover, he is also deft with finishing chances from close range and is prolific in the final third with his final delivery as well.
The Cremonese forward will look to make a name for himself in Qatar and showcase his ultimate potential where it matters the most.
Alidu Seidu
Alidu Seidu has come in leaps and bounds since earning first Black Stars call-up in June for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic.
A very good performer at both right-back and left-back, there were very good reason why a lot of clubs were tentatively linked with a move for the defender.
If he can maintain his superb displays at the back, then it won’t be just a number of Europe’s elites keeping tabs of Seidu, but Ghana head coach Otto Addo too.
