Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi says he begged Sulley Muntari not to engage in a fight with Moses Armah Parker during the 2014 World Cup.
Ghana's 2014 World Cup campaign was marred by monetary issues, triggering a whole lot of issues after the players where not paid on an agreed date.
Midfielder Sulley Muntari slapped then management committee member and Medeama SC owner, Moses Parker after a fight broke out because of the appearance fee standoff.
Sulley Muntari was kicked out of camp together with Kelvin-Prince Boateng.
Ghana lost to both Portugal and the United States of America, and drew with eventual champions Germany in the group stages.
Ghana packed home with just a-point after three games at the third successive World Cup finals.
Subsequently, the Justice Dzamefe commission of Enquiry was formed to look into the brouhaha and advise the Government on the steps to curtail future occurrences.
Ghana will face Uruguay, South Korea and Portugal in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup after missing the previous edition in Russia 2018.
Kwesi Nyantakyi said he pleaded with Sulley Muntari not to fight with Moses Parker.
"Muntari and Kevin were not kicked out of camp for technical reasons; they were kicked out of camp on disciplinary grounds,” he said on Joy Sports.
“A fight broke out and I remember begging Sulley to stop, but he wouldn’t listen to me,” he recalled.
“The fight was uncalled for and the fight was unwarranted; it was needless.
“The embarrassment that it brought to the whole team was just unbearable so that was the best decision to take at that time,” he added.
