Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has urged stakeholders and fans to shift their attention to the Black Stars’ crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers instead of engaging in debates over the future of head coach Otto Addo.
Addo has named a 24-man squad for this month’s decisive fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros. His long-term position, however, has come under scrutiny following Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Chad in September and public concerns raised by Sports Minister Kofi Adams.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Agyemang Badu emphasized that Addo deserves the chance to finish the qualifiers before discussions about his future continue.
“I’m not the one who appointed him, but every work each person is doing, they want to succeed. The coach too wants to succeed in his work with the Black Stars,” he said.
“I don’t think the stats show that he has done badly. There is more room for improvement. Let’s wait and play the two matches. There’s more time to deliberate on his future after.”
Ghana currently lead Group I with 19 points and need just four more to book their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
The Black Stars will travel to Morocco to face the Central African Republic on October 8 at Stade d'Honneur de Meknes before hosting Comoros in Accra on October 12 for their final group game.
A fifth World Cup appearance remains well within Ghana’s reach.
