Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has expressed his pride and gratitude following Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana sealed their spot in next year’s tournament — to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — after defeating Comoros 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Mohammed Kudus scoring the decisive goal.
Djiku, who plays for Spartak Moscow, featured for the full 90 minutes in the victory and was full of joy after the Black Stars completed their qualification campaign, becoming the fifth African nation to book a place at the global showpiece.
“So proud and grateful. We’re going to the 2026 World Cup. Big thank you to everyone who’s been with us from day one. Ghana to the USA… we move together,” Djiku wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page after the match.
Ghana’s qualification marks their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and their fifth in six consecutive editions. Head coach Otto Addo also made history as the first man to lead the Black Stars to the tournament on two separate occasions.
