The promising rising star of Ghanaian parentage has revealed his excitement to have joined up with the juvenile side of the west African powerhouse as he looks forward to representing them at the continental showpiece later this year

American-born Ghanaian starlet Luke Martey says he feels ''honoured and blessed'' to have gained an invite into the Ghana national U-17 men's football team ahead of the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament slated for April 25 to May 15, 2026 in Morocco.

The budding star, who is plying his trade with American Major League Soccer (MLS) side FC Dallas, is on course to switch his nationality allegiance and play for Ghana at the senior level given his latest call-up by the Black Starlets technical handlers for the impending continental juvenile football event next month.

Speaking in an interview, the talented teenage sensation said his aspirations to play for the Ghana senior national team made him to ditch the USA national teams by deciding to play for Ghana starting with the immature team.

The versatile teenage winger told Citi Sports: ''lt’s just an honour to represent Ghana. I think it’s because of my parents; they were both born in Accra and they left a legacy for me to pick up so I think representing the Black Starlets and Ghana itself is a blessing. I think that’s one of the main motivations on why I chose to represent Ghana at such a young age.”

He added on his determination for the U17 AFCON: ''Personal objective, just go there-the AFCON-shine, do my best with the team. Getting integrated with the team and just doing great things with them, I think, that’s the most important thing for me.''
