Daniel Kofi Kyereh has revealed that former Black Stars captain André Ayew was his childhood idol, crediting the veteran forward as a major influence in his football journey.
Speaking in an exclusive yet-to-be-televised interview with JoySports, the Freiburg midfielder opened up about the special bond he shared with Ayew during his early days with the national team.
“From the day I joined the Black Stars to when I had the injury and couldn’t participate anymore, he was really taking good care of me. Of course, he was my childhood hero,” Kyereh said.
“I still have pictures of him and others in my childhood room. I have big respect for Dede.”
Kyereh first received a call-up to the Ghana national team in 2021 and caught attention during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he featured in Ghana’s group-stage match against Comoros.
He was also part of Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but suffered a serious injury that sidelined him for 36 months.
The midfielder has since returned to action, marking his comeback with a goal for Freiburg’s U-23 side as he continues rebuilding his career.
