Former Ghana Football Association chairman Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has urged authorities to appoint a high-quality coach for the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His call comes after coach Otto Addo was removed from his role due to poor results, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart. Before that, the team had suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna, raising new worries about their preparation.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said the focus must be on quality and experience, especially with limited time before the tournament.
“If the government has the money, they should pay well and go for a top-class coach,” he said.
“Some coaches have the ability to turn teams around quickly.”
He also advised against bringing back former coach Kwasi Appiah, suggesting past challenges should rule out a return and that the coach himself should decline any such offer.
Among the names linked with the role are Joachim Low, who won the 2014 World Cup, and experienced South African coach Pitso Mosimane.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to announce a new coach in the coming days, as the Black Stars prepare for upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Wales.
At the World Cup, Ghana will begin their Group L campaign against Panama, England and Croatia.
