Former Ghana Football Association chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called for urgent action in appointing a high-quality head coach to revive the fortunes of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His appeal follows the dismissal of Otto Addo after Ghana’s disappointing March international window, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, days after a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed that the next appointment must be based on proven competence, experience, and the ability to deliver immediate results.
“If the government has the money, they should pay well and go for a top-class coach,” he told Graphic Sports, emphasizing that elite managers come at a cost.
“Some coaches have the ability to turn teams around quickly,” he added, highlighting the urgency of Ghana’s situation.
The veteran football administrator also cautioned against revisiting past options, specifically ruling out a return for former coach Kwesi Appiah. According to him, previous challenges during Appiah’s tenure should serve as a warning, and he believes the coach himself should decline any potential offer.
Meanwhile, several high-profile names have been linked with the vacant role, including former Germany boss Joachim Löw and experienced South African tactician Pitso Mosimane.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to finalise the appointment in the coming days, with time running out before crucial preparatory fixtures against Mexico and Wales.
Ghana will compete in Group L at the World Cup, where they face a daunting challenge against Panama, England, and Croatia, making the next coaching decision one of the most critical in recent years.
