Ex-Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has been named as a key member of the manifesto committee of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Gyan, who announced his retirement from football in 2022, has been tasked by NPP's Presidential candidate for Ghana's next elections in December to propose policies regarding youth and sports with his expertise.
The former Sunderland and Stade Rennais striker affirmed his membership for the ruling government of Ghana when he made an appearance at Dr. Bawumia's address at the USPA auditorium in Accra earlier this month.
The Africa's all-time top scorer at the FIFA World Cup is joining twenty-three other politicians to undertake what the NPP says is “a holistic review of the party’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos and engaging all relevant stakeholders to come up with a pragmatic 2024 manifesto.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Gyan shared a cryptic message on his X (formerly Twitter) page that has now been given meaning by tonight’s appointment.
“I believe the time has come for Legends in sports to come together and use their influence, network and resources in attracting investors into our country and make a meaningful impact on our youth in the sports fraternity I.e football, boxing and other athletics. I strongly…”
Gyan is now expected to take an active part in communicating the sports aspect of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto when complete.
