Highly-rated Ghanaian left-back Baba Abdul Rahman is set to make a long-awaited return to the Black Stars after nearly three years away from international duty.
The PAOK FC left-back has not featured for Ghana since September 2023, when he played in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Central African Republic national team at the Baba Yara Stadium.
His absence was mainly due to the criticism he faced at that time from sections of the Ghanaian football faithful, which led to his decision to step away from the national team.
Despite several attempts by the Ghana Football Association to bring him back, Baba remained unavailable until recent intervention from newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The experienced tactician is reported to have held talks with the defender, convincing him to reconsider his stance and return to the squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Baba’s potential comeback comes at a crucial time for Ghana, as his experience is expected to strengthen the team’s defensive options.
He has been in solid form at club level, making 31 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing three goals and two assists.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, Croatia and England.
