Black Stars midfielder Abdul Samed Salis is set to miss Ghana's all-important game against Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers following an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder suffered a sprained ankle in RC Lens' 3-1 away loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.
He was subsequently replaced by Stijn Spierings after enjoying only 45 minutes of the game.
RC Lens coach Franck Haise in an interview after the game confirmed to the media that the Ghana international indeed suffered an ankle sprain, and he will go for further assessment in the coming days.
"For him [Salis Abdul Samed], there is has a sprain yes. I don't know the gravity yet, but I know it comes from the action on the first base,” Haise said in an interview monitored by Kickgh.com
It looks unlikely for Samed Salis' availability for RC Lens next game when they travel to face AS Monaco in the Ligue 1 match-week four on September 2.
Ghana head coach Chris Hughton is expected to name his squad this week for Ghana's final match in the AFCON qualifiers against Central African Republic which comes off on September 7.
His absence in the Black Stars team for the last AFCON qualifier against Central African Republic will be a massive blow for the West African nation and it looks unlikely for his availability.
Ghana will host CAR at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the crucial fixture which a win or draw will book the Black Stars a ticket to the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.
Samed Salis, who represented Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, has capped seven times for the Black Stars.
