Ibrahim Sunday, a former Ghana international, has put down the Black Stars recent struggles to the absence of a succession plan.
Following Ghana’s poor performance in the 2025 Afcon qualifiers as the team failed to secure qualification for the first time in 21 years, the head coach of the team' Otto Addo has come under heavy criticism with many calling for his head.
“The Black Stars are struggling because we didn’t plan for the future. We enjoyed the Black Stars in previous years without putting in place a succession plan. We should have introduced players into the team for the future,” he said in an interview.
The Black Stars will now shift their attention to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as they have a bigger task ahead against Chad and Madagascar in their next two games in the global showpiece qualifiers in March, 2025.
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Otto Addo handed out a report to the FA's Executive Council, delineating the rationale behind the Black Stars' bad performances in the afcon qualifiers.
However, the meeting ended without a conclusive verdict, as the FA revealed that further consultations with stakeholders, including the government, would be essential to decide Addo's destiny as Black Stars coach.
