Ghana Football Association Spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum has provided updates on the country’s preparations towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup which is six months away from now in USA, Canada and Mexico.
The four-time African champions after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia, made a return in the next edition in 2022 in Qatar but failed to make it out of the group stage.
The Black Stars secured their fifth World Cup appearance with an outstanding display in the qualifiers having finished as winners of Group I with massive eight wins from ten matches.
Missing out on the just-ended 2025 AFCON will definitely urge coach Otto Addo and his men to up the ante this time to deliver a top-tier performance at the Mundial in order to keep the confidence of the people.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, the renowned journalist disclosed that the provisional squad list for the competition will be announced in April and the final one will follow two months later and added the team will to go past the first round this time.
"Our target for the World Cup is to qualify from the group stage and be competitive. We want to fight, we have the quality, and we believe we can match our quarter-final appearance—and possibly go even further," he told Akoma FM.
"Following the Qatar 2022 World Cup, we strengthened the technical team. The coach has requested some new additions, and the FA is currently working on them. However, the individuals involved are under contract with their respective employers, making it difficult to disclose names at this time."
"Details of the Black Stars’ camping base and logistical arrangements will be announced in the first week of February. The provisional squad is expected in April, with the final squad to be named on June 1," he added.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama
The West African country will open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
