The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that the Black Stars will play a major international friendly against a top European nation next year as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum disclosed the plan shortly after Friday’s announcement of Ghana’s World Cup group opponents. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Panama and Croatia for the expanded 48-team tournament to be staged across the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Asante Twum revealed that interest from Europe has been strong even before the draw was made.
"We are likely to have a highly European-friendly. Even before the draw, we had received some requests from some of the big houses. Even before we play against South Korea and Japan, we had some European teams writing to us to check if indeed we will be in a good place to play," he told TV3.
"So what we have to do now is look at all the possibilities and which one will be beneficial to us, and then we will go for it."
Ghana will begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before locking horns with England on June 23 in Boston, and wrap up the group phase against 2018 finalists Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
The Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger showing after their group-stage exit at Qatar 2022.
