The in-form Cityzen's winger has been in the firing line for his below-par performances with the national football team, but the former Ghana international has jumped to his defence by insisting that the 26-year-old remains a top-notch star with the four-time African champions

Black Stars winger Antoine Semenyo is a top class player and would come good with the support of his national football team-mates, says ex-Ghana international Anthony Baffoe.

After failing to replicate his rich vein of form in the Premier League with Ghana in this month's Pre-World Cup friendlies against Austria and Germany, the former Bournemouth talismanic forward has now come in for heavy criticisms from fans, with some questioning his commitment level with the west African powerhouse on international assignments.

That notwithstanding, in launching the Manchester City man defence, Baffoe believes the current injury situation that has  bedevilled the playing body of the main team setup has also contributed to his unimpressive displays against the two European nations and that Semenyo would surely come good when those affected players are back to their full fitness by providing support for him.

''Semenyo is a top class player, but at the moment Black Stars are now Man City,'' the former Fortuna Düsseldorf defender is quoted as saying by Citi Sports. “So everything around him is totally different and don’t forget, we are playing without the likes of Kudus, Kamaldeen just came back from injury.''

''Thomas Partey is not 100% in shape, which is also fully understandable. They need to be in top form. I think Jordan had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch. So if those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him,'' he added.
