Nigeria national team head coach Éric Sékou Chelle has emerged as a surprise candidate to take over the Black Stars job following the jettisoning of Otto Addo.
Addo’s exit comes after a disappointing international window, where Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats, losing 5-1 to Austria in Vienna before falling 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart.
In his second stint, Otto Addo managed 22 matches, recording eight wins, nine defeats and five draws, with 35 goals scored and 28 conceded.
With the clock ticking towards the World Cup, the Ghana Football Association has turned its attention to possible replacements, with both local and foreign coaches under consideration.
Among the names gaining strong attention is Eric Chelle, who is currently in charge of the Super Eagles of Nigeria and is gradually building a growing reputation on the continent. He guided Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
The Malian tactician is no stranger to African football, having previously managed Mali between 2022 and 2024. His experience on the continent, coupled with his recent success, has made him a strong option as Ghana look to quickly appoint a new coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
With limited time before the World Cup, the GFA faces a key decision, and Chelle’s name continues to gain momentum as discussions continues over who will lead the Black Stars into the global tournament.
