Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have been left high and dry with no funding in sight just three weeks before they fly out for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
With time ticking, the Queens find themselves in a financial black hole, stranded without support from either the Ghana Football Association (GFA) or the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
This situation has raised serious concerns about their preparation, morale, and even participation in the continental showpiece.
“Nothing has come in, no camp allowances, no travel funds, no prep budget. We’re just sitting aloof and waiting,” a source close to the team revealed to Kickgh.com.
While other nations are deep into intensive training camps, warm-up friendlies, and final tactical drills, the Black Queens are stuck in limbo.
The senior national women's team's training schedules have been disrupted and logistics plans frozen due to the lack of financial backing.
The team’s technical handlers are frustrated and helpless, with growing fears that this could affect performance and team spirit in Morocco.
“How do you expect these ladies to give 100% when their needs aren’t even being considered?” a team staffer fumed.
With just 18 days to kick-off of the WAFCON, the clock is ticking but where’s the leadership? Where’s the support? as Ghana’s Queens literally remain grounded financially
The Black Queens are drawn against Mali, title holders South Africa, and Tanzania, and will clash with South Africa on July 7.
