Black Starlets head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has admitted that coaching the team has been very challenging, particularly with player selection due to the high quality of talent at his disposal ahead of the CAF U-17 AFCON in Morocco.
The ex-Asante Kotoko gaffer guided the Black Starlets to qualification by finishing second in the WAFU Zone-B tournament in October last year where they as runners up after a penalty shootouts loss to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
The Black Starlets have already shown attacking flair in recent warm-up games with a 3-2 and 4-3 wins over Na God FC and True Democracy respectively.
They further tested their strengths with a 1-0 win over Port City and 2-0 win over Semper Fi FC, with these matches providing the need opposition for coach Prosper Narteh to identify the strength and weaknesses of his team.
Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM, he spoke openly about the difficulties in picking his final squad for the upcoming tourney admitting he has so much quality youngsters at his disposal to select at the moment but added the competition will help bring the best out of all the players.
"Actually it’s been very challenging if you look at the quality we have identified it is very challenging some are higher than some of the players we took to the WAFU.
"So its been challenging but then as coaches that is one of our responsibilities when you have a problem like that you call it good problem. It means you have equally competent or more competent players in each position, so we are doing our best.”
The Black Starlets will return to the continent showpiece for the first time since 2017. The competition will be held in April in Morocco.
