Ghana's Deputy Sports Minister, Evans Opoku Bobie has jumped into the defence of Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton after the team's painful exit from the ongoing 2023 AFCON.

Ghana needed a win to qualify but sadly gave away a two goal and conceded two at the death of the game to play out a 2-2 stalemate with Mozambique in their final group game.

Jordan Ayew netted a brace against the Mambas last night all from spot-kicks but his goals were cancelled out subsequently courtesy two late goals from Geny Cipriano and Renildo Mandava.

The draw means the four-time champions ended the campaign with just points from a defeat and two draws and finished third in Group B.

Speaking on Akoma FM in an interview, Evans Opoku Bobie has admitted Chris Hughton has to be blamed but shouldn't be only him and should rather be the entire team since they all had their share in the team's ill performance in Cote D'Ivoire.

"As long as government keeps funding the team, it will continue to have an interest but no one should single out Chris Hughton.

"Instead, everyone must be held accountable. It's a shared responsibility; Chris Hughton has his own portion of the problem, which is related to his substitution, but there are other issues in the team that cannot be attributed just to the coach."

The Black Stars players will return to their respective clubs and will regroup again to take Mali on June 5, in their third game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
