Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that several factors will be considered before a final decision is made regarding the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.

The 49-year-old tactician recently guided Ghana to its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance following a 1–0 victory over Comoros in Accra, despite failing to qualify the team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Mohammed Kudus’ decisive goal sealed Ghana’s spot in the global showpiece, but questions remain about Addo’s long-term future due to the team’s inconsistent performances.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Mr. Adams clarified that the decision will not rest solely with his ministry but will involve multiple football stakeholders, including the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“If you listen to Otto Addo, he said he would try different players to know who can perform or not. But I believe the management and everyone involved in hiring the coach will consider many factors,” Mr. Adams stated.

“I pay him, but it’s not my decision alone. The GFA has a role to play, and moving forward, we’ll have all these discussions together,” he added.

The Sports Minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, urged Ghanaians to rally behind Addo, citing Ivory Coast’s example at the 2023 AFCON, where interim coach Emerse Faé led the Elephants to victory after the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset.

“Ivory Coast changed their coach during AFCON, and their assistant led them to win the title. If you’re determined, success will come. For now, Otto Addo is our coach, and we must support him,” Mr. Adams said.

Otto Addo has made history as the first coach to lead Ghana to back-to-back FIFA World Cups, having also guided the team to the 2022 edition in Qatar. The Black Stars will find out their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on December 5.
