The Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has reiterated the domestic football governing body's dedication to the continuing restoration of the Black Stars in 2025.
In 2025, the Black Stars had an auspicious beginning, capturing remarkable results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana recorded two consecutive victories in the qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. The Black Stars thrashed Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium before using Madagascar as 'chopping sticks' (3-0) in the 5th and 6th rounds of matches in the qualifying campaign.
The win against Chad and Madagascar helped Ghana to extend their lead at the top of Group I to 15 points, three above second-placed Comoros.
In a tête-à-tête interview with GFA Media, Asante Twum mused regarding the progress achieved thus far, but also recognizing the difficulties encountered last year.
"2024 was a year of mixed feelings. When Otto Addo took office we started with a friendly against Nigeria in Morocco which we lost 2-1 and then drew with Uganda," he said.
"The highlight of 2024 was the two victories against Mali in Bamako and the Central African Republic in Kumasi; after that we couldn’t make it to the 2025 Africa cup of Nations in Morocco."
He emphasized that the GFA persists in focusing on building up the team and underpinning a firm footing that will guarantee lasting accomplishment.
"So in 2025 we want to try as much as possible to continue our rebuilding process to continue the effort in making the team one of the best on the continent. It will not come easy , it will come with a lot of friendlies, a lot of engagement, and a lot of competitive matches.
"So having done with the World Cup qualifiers in March, we have been exploring other avenues to get the team at least two matches," Asante Twum concluded.
Black Stars will slit-it-out with Chad and Mali in September, 2025 before wrapping up the World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros as they intend to annex a spot in the mundial.
