The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that it will assess the future of head coach Carlos Queiroz after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says the experienced Portuguese coach has been given a short-term role and will be reviewed once the tournament ends in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Queiroz was appointed to lead the Black Stars after the dismissal of Otto Addo, following back-to-back friendly defeats against Austria and Germany.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Asante Twum explained the FA’s plan for the coach’s future.
“Carlos Queiroz will lead the Black Stars until the end of the World Cup. After that, the FA will review how things turn out and decide whether to keep him or part ways,” he said.
He also confirmed that the 72-year-old has already started work with the team ahead of the tournament.
“Carlos Queiroz has already begun work on the Black Stars and is expected in Ghana in the coming days,” Asante Twum added.
Queiroz is expected to meet the squad during an international friendly against Mexico next month, before a final warm-up match against Wales on June 2.
Ghana, preparing for its fifth World Cup appearance, has been drawn in Group L of the tournament, which will also feature England national football team and Croatia national football team alongside Panama.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ghana have suffered group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, and Queiroz will now aim to guide the team to a stronger performance at the global tournament.
