Black Stars coach Otto Addo has highlighted the poor condition of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch as a significant factor in Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Angola.
The match saw a late goal from Angola, capitalizing on a crucial error by defender Abdul Mumin. Addo defended Mumin but emphasized that the pitch conditions were detrimental to Ghana’s performance.
“It was unlucky for Mumin, but we made some mistakes even before that situation,” Addo stated. “But the pitch was not good, and we can’t overlook that.”
“We made some mistakes so it’s not only him. The grass was not that good. Besides the mistake, he had a really good game. He played a lot of passes in between the lines and won a lot of duels. He is young and surely will develop"
Addo’s comments reflect growing frustration over the state of the stadium, which has faced criticism for impacting the quality of play. The defeat marks a disappointing start to Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars will look to recover in their next match against Niger, scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2024, in Morocco.
