Ghana Football Association Executive Council member, Dr. Randy Abbey, reveals that Herve Renard was their fist option but his $80,000 paycheck was a problem before appointing Milovan Rajevac.

After former Black Stars coach C.K. Akonnor was shown the exit door, the Ghana Football Association tasked a three member committee, headed by the Vice President Mark Addo, to find a replacement for the national side.

The three member committee finally settled on Former Black Stars gaffer, Milovan Rajevac to take charge of the four-time AFCON champions.

Subsequently, the Serbian tactician led Ghana to one of its worse performances at the African showpiece since 2006.

The two time AFCON champion, Herve Renard, has had a stint with Black Stars as an assistant in 2008.

Dr. Randy Abbey says Herve Renard was their first preferred candidate for the job but his contract with Saudi Arabia and salary was a problem.

"The Ghana Football Association [GFA] gave us 48 hours to settle on a new coach for the team, and we decided that we have to go in for someone who understands the culture of the country," Randy Abbey told Accra-based Original FM.

"Herve Renard was our first choice but when we contacted him, he was not ready to leave his work with the Saudi Arabia team because he told us he wants to lead the side to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Again, his monthly was a problem because he was on a $80,000 but we were still ready to negotiate with him," he added.
