President Akufo Addo has expressed his concern to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding the consistent underperformance of the Black Stars at major tournaments.

The President raised this issue during a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana FA at the Jubilee House.

Ghana faced early exits in both the last AFCON in Cameroon and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, prompting President Akufo Addo to question the nation's inability to capitalize on its abundant talent.

"We have some very good talents scattered across the globe, so I don't understand why we shouldn't perform in tournaments," he remarked during the meeting, which focused on football and sports development in the country.

As Ghana aims for their fifth continental title, they are set to participate in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Placed in Group B, the Black Stars will compete against Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

Their AFCON campaign kicks off against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024, followed by matches against Egypt and Mozambique.

The 34th edition of the AFCON is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
