Auxerre midfielder Elisha Owusu has expressed his strong desire to return to the Ghana national team as the Black Stars gear up for the decisive stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines due to injury, which kept him out of recent national team call-ups. However, he insists he is ready to fight his way back into the squad.

“I want to be in the team [for the World Cup qualifiers]. I will do my maximum to be in the team,” Owusu told Flashscore.

Ghana currently sit at the summit of Group I with 15 points from six matches, placing them ahead of Comoros and Madagascar as the qualification race reaches a crucial stage.

The Black Stars’ next fixtures in September could prove pivotal. On September 4, they will travel to N’Djamena to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno. Four days later, on September 8, they return to Accra to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. Victories in these matches would put Ghana firmly on course for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.

Owusu, who has been steadily regaining form with Auxerre in France, believes his return could bolster Ghana’s midfield depth as they push for qualification.
