Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says he would not be surprised if Andre Ayew is named in the Black Stars squad for the next FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Adom FM, Adams said the veteran forward is still active at club level and remains in contention for selection.

“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and still playing actively, I won't be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams told Adom FM.

However, the minister made it clear that the final decision rests with the national team coach, Otto Addo.

“However, it is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” he added.

Ayew, who is Ghana’s most capped player and a former captain of the national team, has played at several Africa Cup of Nations competitions and featured at previous World Cups.

Now 36, he has faced strong competition from younger players in recent years, leading to debate among fans about his future with the national side.

But since joining NAC Breda during the winter transfer window, Ayew has made eight appearances in the Dutch top flight and delivered impressive performances, keeping talk of a possible return to the global stage alive.

As Ghana continues preparations to build a competitive squad for the Mundial, Ayew’s name is likely to remain part of the discussion in the months ahead.
