Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that a return to the Black Stars for veteran forward Andre Ayew cannot be ruled out ahead of the next FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with Adom FM, the Minister stated that as long as Ayew remains active at club level, he remains a viable option for national team selection.

“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and is still playing actively, I won’t be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams said.

Despite his comments, Adams clarified that squad selection is solely the responsibility of the Black Stars head coach.

“However, it is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” he added.

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player and former captain, has played a pivotal role for the national team over the past decade, representing the country at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cups. His leadership qualities and vast experience have often been viewed as important assets, particularly during periods of transition within the squad.

Now 36, Ayew has faced stiff competition from younger players in recent years, sparking debate over his place in the team’s long-term plans. However, his recent form at NAC Breda has reignited conversations about a possible return to the global stage.

Since joining the Dutch side during the winter transfer window, the forward has made eight appearances in the Eredivisie, delivering impressive performances that have strengthened his case.

With Ghana aiming to assemble a competitive squad for the Mundial, Ayew’s potential inclusion is expected to remain a key topic of discussion in the build-up to the tournament.
