Ghana head coach Otto Addo has revealed that he picks up tactical knowledge from both Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.
The former Ghana international, who was born in Hamburg, spent his entire professional career in Germany, playing for Hannover, Borussia Dortmund, and Mainz.
After retiring from professional football, Addo transitioned into management, serving as Dortmund’s assistant coach until he joined Ghana's national team permanently in March.
During a press conference in Accra, where he announced his squad for the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR), Addo was asked which manager he models his game around.
The 48-year-old said he’s always ready to learn from other coaches, drawing insights from both Guardiola's and Mourinho's philosophies.
“For me, I always try to learn. I’m a coach who wants to learn, listen, and take advice even from lower coaches. I’m always open to discussions with other coaches, so I’m a learner,” Addo said.
“I learn a lot from Guardiola, I learn a lot from Mourinho, and I learn a lot from other coaches, including what not to do. In the end, I think I’m a mixture of everything. I can play offensively, defensively, or a mix of both. I can make changes. I think I’m a good reader of the game and good at predicting things to happen.”
Ghana will travel to Mali for the World Cup qualifiers on June 6 before taking on CAR at home four days later.
